🌟 Editor's Note

One year ago today, on the Fourth of July, I sent the very first issue of Flashback into the world.

A little dramatic? Maybe. But starting a history newsletter on America's birthday felt just theatrical enough. Since then, I've been opening the trapdoor beneath the calendar and looking for the weird, brilliant, messy, funny, tragic, world-shaping things that happened on this date.

And the best part is that you came with me.

Flashback began with a simple idea: “What if history didn't feel like homework?” Could it feel more like a curious friend asking you, "Wait until you hear what happened today?" After one year, the little idea is still ticking, still digging through the archives. And now, somehow, it's growing with a community of readers who like to travel back in time.

I'd love it if you shared Flashback with someone who would enjoy it, even if it's only a small part of your daily routine. History is always better with someone next to you saying, "Wait... seriously?"

So today, I'm celebrating one year of looking back, not out of nostalgia, but because the past keeps leaving fingerprints all over the present.

Flashback is grateful for your reading, sharing, support, replies, and for making room in your day for it. Now that we're into year two, I can tell you this: there's a lot more to come. I've got some surprises, new features, and a few ideas I've been quietly saving,

For now, though, thank you for sticking around for the first year!

Now, shall we go back?
